Suzanne Rheinstein and Hollyhock

Shop on Taigan
Suzanne opened Hollyhock to sell all the things she loved for the home but couldn’t easily find in Los Angeles. That was over 20 years ago and since its opening Hollyhock has been an exclusive resource for designers and discerning shoppers. Originally opened as a neighborhood shop on Larchmont Boulevard, in 2000 the shop moved to a landmark building in West Hollywood which once housed design legend Tony Duquette’s studio. Last year, Hollyhock moved to a more visible location, a charming cottage on La Cienega Boulevard, in the La Cienega Design Quarter. Suzanne carefully chooses every item in the shop with a particular point of view, including wonderful, quirky pieces that can’t be found anyplace else.
“Hollyhock is very user-friendly,” Suzanne says. “You just have to be obsessed with the difference between handmade and machine made.” It has an eclectic mélange of 18th and 19th century antiques mixed with home accessories, art, contemporary furniture and books on interiors, architecture and living well. It also features the “Hollyhock Home Collection,” Suzanne’s unique line of custom upholstery, furniture and lighting. It represents several international product lines, including the colorful hand-thrown lamps of Christopher Spitzmiller, Roy Hamilton ceramics, William Yeoward glass, Vladimir porcelain, Libeco and Gayle Warwick linens, and Suzanne’s Lee Jofa fabrics.
In keeping with Suzanne’s commitment to supporting the cultural life of Southern California, Hollyhock is known as “the city’s liveliest salon,” featuring book parties, lectures supporting non-profit groups and other celebrations.
