He had unrivaled access to nearly everyone in London, New York, and Hollywood and puts those connections to very good use here. Though antiquarian, this book has a timeless quality. It speaks to the present moment. The New York Times fumed over its Depression-insensitive price tag of $7.50 [in 1937 dollars]. The Times has since recanted, acknowledging it as one of the most sought-after out-of-print books.
