Crafted from vintage Turkish carpets, every pair of our signature Kilim shoes are truly one-of-a-kind. This unique style has garnered a cult following, and its limited releases are collected by fans all over the world. It has—and continues to—inspire love letters from wearers.
The hand-woven Kilim upper offers great breathability and stretch, making it the perfect loafer for going sockless. Velvety linings and a soft leather insole feel plush against bare feet, and a leather outsole with a rubber heel is the perfect mix of classic sensibility and long-lasting durability. Endlessly versatile, they’ll pair just as well with shifts, skirts, and your favorite jeans.
Made in a small, family-owned workshop in Turkey by cobblers from families that have practiced the craft of Kilim shoe creation for generations.

Our Classic Kilim Loafer style fits true to size, with a narrow shape and elongated toe box. If you wear a half size, you’ll want to size down to the nearest whole size (a US 8.5 should order a 38). Because the Kilim is made from 100% natural woven fabrics, it will expand like a fine leather and mold to the shape of your foot over time. An ideal starting fit is snug (even uncomfortably so), with toes very close to the front of the shoe, but flat on the bottom (not curled under to fit). In other words, size for length, and the width of the shoe will stretch to accommodate your foot.
If they become a little bit wet it’s not a big deal; just let them dry out completely and continue wearing as usual. To clean small stains, just blot with a warm washcloth. Any dirt stains can be removed with a bristle brush once dried.
Artemis is best known for their magical "Flying Carpet Shoes" -- one of a kind kilim loafers and kilim smoking shoes that are all handmade from genuine Turkish carpets. The idea for Artemis Design Co. was born on a trip to Istanbul in 2007. The designer, Milicent Armstrong, saw and fell in love with carpet bags, shoes and all of the other accessories that were repurposed from the beautiful flat-woven textile. Several years later, while attending Interior Design school, Armstrong made her way back to Istanbul, found a small artisan workshop willing to work with her, and began production on her first run of products. These first pieces took the concept of repurposing Kilims and altered the designs to suit modern, classic shapes.
